World's First In-Theater Gaming League Launches In 3 Largest U.S. Movie Chains This Summer
Founded By A Group Of Dads Looking To Bring A Minor League Experience to Gamers, Super League Gaming Combines Video Games With Recreational Competition
LOS ANGELES, June 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Super League Gaming, the world's first in-theater video game league, brings gamers together in-person to play side-by-side on the big movie screen. Launching its Super League Gaming Summer Tour in Los Angeles on June 15, the startup is taking over 28 major cities across the U.S. with 80+ movie theater locations, including the nation's three largest chains -- Regal Entertainment Group, AMC Theatres, and Cinemark Theatres, as well as luxury chain iPic Theaters.
For the first time ever, gamers and their teams compete against each other inside movie theaters throughout the country for league championship titles in this new, immersive, face-to-face experience, starting with the game Minecraft, and others to come in the fall.
The 28-city tour will run from June 15 through August 26 to introduce the concept of Super League Gaming and get the word out about league gameplay which starts with a 6-week session on September 14.
"Much like a baseball player has their minor or junior league, gamers now have Super League," says Super League President and COO Brett Morris. "And much like a basketball player has a court, or a soccer player has a field, gamers now have theaters. We're bringing together gamers to compete and socialize with other like-minded gamers in an exciting setting."
A 3rd-person world view of a customized game will be projected on a theater screen, showing the all-encompassing perspective of the Minecraft world with all players, while gamers play 1st-person on their own laptops. Super League Gaming's proprietary technology uses Minecraft's open source API to merge all players onto a single screen, creating a wholly new experience for group gameplay.
During the 80 minute sessions, gamers will build with their teams, compete in battles and enjoy free time to socialize and strategize with other gamers as they work to climb the international leaderboard.
With over 100 million downloads, Minecraft is by far the most downloaded computer game of all time and has gained even more popularity in recent years as YouTube gamers have helped propel its rise. CaptainSparklez, a YouTube celebrity with over 8.6 million subscribers watching his Minecraft videos, will be an integral part of Super League Gaming and also appear at the June 15th launch event at Cinemark Playa Vista and XD in LA.
"There are all kinds of leagues out there, but there's still a vast group of gamers who don't have any way of organizing themselves into recreational teams," says Super League Co-Founder and Chief Visionary John Miller. "We were just a group of dads who saw that void and thought this would be a great way to bring gaming to life. Gamers learn how to cooperate, how to develop their social skills, and work together toward a common goal over a period of time. The core concept of teamwork is still there. We're just evolving the playing field."
The Summer Tour will bring Super League Gaming to over 80 theaters in the U.S., followed by 6-week league sessions in the fall where gamers play once a week for $120 per session. To learn more about Super League Gaming and buy tickets, visit: www.SuperLeague.com
