LOS ANGELES, July 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- This summer the world's first in-theater gaming league, Super League Gaming, will give gamers the unique opportunity to socialize and play side-by-side in movie theaters across the country. Founded by a group of dads, the startup is taking over 80+ movie theaters across 25 major U.S. cities for their Super League Gaming Summer Tour and is stopping at select Atlanta-area theaters the week of July 20th, 2015. Super League has partnered with the nation's three largest movie theater chains -- Regal Entertainment Group, AMC Theatres, and Cinemark Theatres, as well as luxury chain iPic Theaters -- to turn theaters into interactive gaming arenas for kids and gamers alike.
Super League Gaming aims to give gamers a unique, big-screen experience where they can play and socially interact with each other in a fun environment, while competing for league championship titles playing the popular game Minecraft, with more titles to be added in the future.
The coast-to-coast, 25 city tour will run from June 15th through August 26th to introduce Super League Gaming's unique concept and get the word out about league gameplay, which starts with continuous 6 week sessions on September 14th.
"We're a group of dads ourselves," says Super League President and COO Brett Morris. "It occurred to us that gaming can actually be a very social and enriching experience if you combine it with in-person competition and bring it to a venue that allows gamers to connect and self-organize. Kids want to get up and collaborate together, and theater spaces are a natural fit for that kind of interaction. It's an experience you can't find anywhere else."
Each event is comprised of a 100-minute session that gives players a chance to participate in both live gameplay and free time with other gamers as they build with their teams, compete in battles, and work together to climb the international leader board.
Super League Gaming takes advantage of Minecraft's open source API to create a 3rd person "world view" of a customized game that will be projected on the theater screen, while each individual player uses their own laptop to play in the traditional 1st person view as they compete on teams in the theater for a wholly immersive gameplay experience.
"The Super League Gaming events hosted at Regal are an exceptional experience for gamers," says Ray Nutt, Senior Vice President of Business Relations at Regal Entertainment Group. "We are excited to partner on the world's first recreational video game league's summer program that brings kids together and offers a unique setting to socialize, hone their gaming skills and compete."
Minecraft, one of the the world's most downloaded computer games, lets players use their imaginations to build anything they can conjure up in a 3D world. The popularity of the game has exploded in recent years thanks to YouTube gamers like CaptainSparklez, a YouTube celebrity with over 8.6 million subscribers, and a founding gamer among the Super League team.
"Gaming can be incredibly collaborative and help kids develop valuable skills," says Super League Gaming Co-Founder and Chief Visionary John Miller. "We wanted to come up with a way to amplify those positive aspects while giving kids a chance to be themselves. Super League is about combining modern pastimes with old-school teamwork that truly engages players."
The Summer Tour will bring Super League Gaming to over 80 theaters in the U.S. for $20 per event, followed by 6-week league sessions in the fall where gamers play once a week for $120 per session. To learn more about Super League Gaming and buy tickets, visit: www.SuperLeague.com
