World Water Day Success Fuels MagneGas Global Expansion Strategy
MagneGas, The Jack Brewer Foundation, and USFMEP Recap Success of World Water Day Summit
MINNEAPOLIS and TAMPA, Fla., April 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- MagneGas Corporation (NASDAQ: MNGA), hosted the World Water Day Summit at the United Nations Headquarters on Monday, March 23rd, in partnership with The Jack Brewer Foundation (JBF Worldwide) and the U.S. Federation for Middle East Peace (USFMEP).
World Water Day, which took place on March 22nd, was organized by UN Water as a day to raise awareness of global water needs with this year's theme as "Water and Sustainable Development." In conjunction with the theme, statistics were shared and discussed that included the fact that 50% of all beds occupied in hospitals across the world are occupied by those suffering from waterborne illnesses1, 40% of populations across continents are affected by water scarcity2, and that the agriculture sector in California uses 80% of the state's developed water supply3. Hundreds of organizations contributed to making 2015 one of the largest water campaigns to date with the #WorldWaterDay hashtag reaching over seven million users worldwide, and the Summit was listed as one of these contributing events. MagneGas was recognized internationally on multiple channels such as The Business Journals, CNBC, Forbes, UN Water, and more.
"Blue is the new black. The past was all about energy and oil. Before that, it was geographic expansion for minerals. Now, as the population grows, water is needed more and more to support agriculture and people," commented Ermanno Santilli, CEO of MagneGas.
The Summit featured representatives from several Permanent Missions to the United Nations including H.E. Ambassador Juan Carlos Mendoza of the Permanent Mission of Costa Rica who stated, "Conflicts over the use of water are becoming more and more common and if we do not bring new solutions to the same old problems, such conflicts will continue to grow." H.E. Ambassador Denis G. Antoine of the Permanent Mission of Grenada spoke on water efforts being implemented in the country of Grenada saying, "Our government puts high priority on agriculture and climate change adaptation and Grenada seeks to advance in the area of technologies for adaptation." H.E. Ambassador Elliston Rahming of the Permanent Mission of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas also gave a speech stating, "In the Bahamas and in other Caribbean countries, the whole question of water is extremely important for any number of reasons and we look to it as helping to ensure the sustainability of our economies."
The first panel on "Waste Water and Irrigation Challenges" included the local organizations Riverkeeper, represented by Paul Gallay and Environment New York by Heather Leibowitz, the international organization International Private Water Association (IWPA) was represented by Kathy Shandling, with moderation by Kodjo Mensah-Abrampa from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The next panel on "Sustainable Innovations for Water Procurement" discussed topics ranging from desalination using solar or waves-driven energy sources, MagneGas' patented Plasma Arc Flow technology for sterilization purposes, and how an international organization (Waterkeeper Alliance) disseminated its knowledge gained in third world countries to first world and vice versa for mutually benefiting outcomes.
As a host, MagneGas provided information throughout all panels about their innovative systems that are able to sterilize waste waters and liquid manures being used in agriculture, in order for potable or developed water to be used in other sectors. The Summit provided a high-level platform for dialogue to continue surrounding sustainable development and global efforts to manage clean water. United Nations Ambassadors and diplomats, industry leaders including sustainability companies and environmental organizations, and many others focused on the challenges many regions of the world face when it comes to the availability and necessity of clean water and how innovative solutions are making a difference. MagneGas will use the platform that came from the summit to further its global strategy for expansion into these markets.
Ambassador Jack Brewer stated, "We are very pleased by the success of the World Water Day Summit. At the forefront of all the discussions was the dire need for sustainable, disruptive technologies, such as MagneGas, that are able to sterilize and treat waste water contaminants. It is imperative that we continue to raise knowledge and awareness on different types of water treatment technologies that will be able to help the 2.5 billion people who do not have access to improved sanitation or clean water."
