SALEM, Ore., Nov. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The World Responsible Tourism Awards were announced today at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London. Travel Oregon was honored with an award for the "Best Short Film for Responsible Tourism" for its video: Communities Powered by Travel: John Day River Territory, Oregon. The award recognizes the residents of the John Day River Territory in Eastern Oregon and their collaborative work to improve the region through tourism.

This video documents the process and their successes in tourism development since taking part in Travel Oregon's Rural Tourism Studio program.
The Rural Tourism Studio is a robust training program designed to assist rural communities in sustainable tourism development with the focus of increasing high-value, authentic experiences for travelers; thereby strengthening Oregon's position as a premier North American tourism destination.
Founded in 2004, the WTM Awards celebrate the heroes and share the stories of the most exciting and enduring responsible tourism experiences in the world. This is the first year for the "Best Short Film for Responsible Tourism" category.
The Communities Powered by Travel video series was produced by Maser Films.
