NEW YORK, Nov. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The World Series of Innovation (WSI), the annual, corporate sponsored, global innovation challenge, will close entries for the 2014 competition during Global Entrepreneurship Week – on Thursday, November 20.
WSI is presented by Microsoft and organized annually by the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) – an international non-profit which teaches young people to think like entrepreneurs and provides them with tools and attitudes to overcome adversity and address future personal, economic, community and global challenges.
"Innovation doesn't follow national borders," said Shawn Osborne, President and CEO of NFTE. "The World Series of Innovation is a global event and a great part of Global Entrepreneurship Week – but the deadline is approaching and there isn't much time left to get in on the 2014 challenges."
The 2014 WSI offers challenges in seven categories:
Microsoft App Challenge: Design an engaging tablet or smart phone app that addresses an important issue or improves community relations at your school.
Microsoft Game Challenge: Develop a cool tablet or smart phone game that improves student achievement and builds awareness of school issues.
GoDaddy: Design an innovative app that connects small business owners with information and resources to help them thrive, grow their business and network with other small business owners.
MasterCard with Junoon Hospitality: Research international hospitality trends, explore new market opportunities and help Junoon Restaurants go global.
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies: Create a unique tablet or smart phone app that promotes volunteerism for a more caring society and a better world.
Coca-Cola/ VEB (venturing & emerging brands): Launch a new beverage company committed to the health, wellness and vitality of Baby Boomers.
Pitney Bowes Foundation: Invent a location-aware application that addresses a need in your school or community.
Teams may enter more than one category. Two winning teams in each of seven different categories will receive $2,500 (including $500 for their school or sponsoring organization). Winners will be announced in February, 2015.
Last year, young people in nine nations submitted more than 700 individual entries making it the largest WSI on record.
Global Entrepreneurship Week is November 17-23, 2014 and is the world's largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.
