Dato' Wong's brings impeccable credentials, top-level experience, and a wealth of industry knowledge to the board while continuing to remain highly and visibly active in many Malaysian affairs: He is currently the honorary governor of the American-Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) and the chairman of the Malaysian American Electronics Industry (MAEI), an industry committee under AMCHAM. In addition, he holds seats on the boards of the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), a division under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), among several other organizations. Dato Wong is also a contributor to the growth of Malaysian educational programs, with a seat on the Faculty Industrial Panel of the Faculty of Engineering, Multimedia University, and as a member of the Advisory Peer Group for the School of Science and Technology of Wawasan Open University, Malaysia.
Dato' Wong's prior working experience is equally impressive. He retired from Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) after 27 years of service serving most recently as vice president of the Technology and Manufacturing Group (TMG) and as general manager of Assembly and Test Manufacturing (ATM) for Intel. In this capacity, he was responsible for all assembly and test for Intel's factories worldwide. He has held other key positions at Intel, which include assembly operations manager, managing director of Intel Malaysia, general manager of Intel's Arizona-based 8-Bit Microcontroller Business Unit and its related design center in Penang. Prior to his tenure as managing director of Intel Malaysia, Dato' Wong was the vice president and managing director of the Penang Asia Pacific Customer Center for Dell Inc.
Dato' Wong holds a Masters in Management Science degree from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London, UK and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, University of Leeds, UK.
World Micro has already distinguished itself in Malaysia earlier this year by signing an agreement with the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA), the statutory body responsible for the development of the Northern Corridor Economic Region of Malaysia ("Koridor Utara", or NCER) to formalize the opening of its Asian distribution hub in Penang. That agreement is expected to improve Malaysia's ability to rid the global supply chain of counterfeit electronic parts through various World Micro training programs, by providing excess inventory disposition programs to local and regional businesses, and by helping to support the economic growth within the region. World Micro is the first US independent distributor to offer these programs on Malaysian soil. With the appointment of Dato Wong to the company's board, World Micro expects to be able to increase its effectiveness in carrying out its economy-building programs throughout the region.
