World Micro Counsels Malaysia's Trade Ministry On Counterfeit Awareness
A Historical First As More Than Thirty Malaysian Enforcement Officers And Government Officials Listen In
ATLANTA and PENANG, Malaysia, March 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- World Micro, Inc. announced today that members of its Asian distribution hub in Penang, Malaysia, recently presented a formal session on counterfeit component issues to the Malaysian Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism in the ministry's offices. This is the first time that a business has presented before the country's domestic trade ministry, provided information on counterfeit electronic components, and offered to help the country thwart illegal parts trafficking through various educational programs. World Micro presented "Awareness, Detection, and Abatement of Non-Conforming and Suspected Counterfeit Electronic Components" to an audience of about thirty-five Malaysian counterfeit enforcement officers and a number of government officials representing the country's Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA).
World Micro has already distinguished itself in Malaysia. In early 2011 the company signed a collaboration agreement with NCIA, the statutory body responsible for the development of the Northern Corridor Economic Region of Malaysia, to formalize the opening of its Asian distribution hub in Penang. That agreement is expected to improve Malaysia's ability to rid the global supply chain of counterfeit electronic parts through various World Micro training programs, by providing excess inventory disposition programs to local and regional businesses, and by helping to support the economic growth within the region. World Micro has already trained a number of local businesses since its opening in Penang, and the recent presentation to the Malaysian Domestic Trade Ministry continues to fulfill part of its commitment, but in greater scope. World Micro is the first US independent distributor to offer these programs on Malaysian soil.
"Because of what I've seen here today, we will bring this to the attention of our head office to address the issue of counterfeit and substandard components crossing our borders with stronger measures," said Guna Selan Marian, deputy state director of Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism and head of Penang's enforcement division. Malaysian officials are highly interested in halting all counterfeit trafficking in their country and have established a corps of officers who inspect and prosecute those who intend to bring counterfeit materials across its borders.
