World Centric® Certified Compostable Tableware Now Available At Select Target Stores Across U.S. And Online At Target.com
Leader in Compostable Packaging Selected As Part Of Target's Commitment To Social Impact And Reducing Environmental Waste
PETALUMA, Calif., July 3, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- World Centric® has announced today that a collection of its plant-based, certified compostable tableware products are now available to consumers at select Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com. Created from wheat straw fiber and PLA, a bioplastic derived from plant-based sugars, the World Centric retail collection offers Target customers a natural, sustainable alternative to traditional disposable petroleum-based options. The collection's availability at Target is part of the retailer's continued commitment to social impact and the environment.
"We're honored to be part of Target's effort to bring sustainable products and purpose-driven brands to its customers," said Mark Stephany, World Centric Senior Vice President of Sales.
The World Centric products now available on shelf include wheat straw fiber plates and bowls, utensils, hot cups and clear cold cups. The plates and bowls are freezer safe and are suitable for hot foods up to 200º F and as well for cold items. The kraft paper hot cups are made of FSC® certified paper and have a plant-based bio lining instead of petroleum-based plastic. The cold cups and utensils are made of PLA, a bioplastic derived from plants, both also free of petroleum.
In addition to being made from rapidly growing renewable materials, the entire World Centric retail line is certified compostable, which means that all of the products from the collection will turn into soil in commercial composting facilities where available. This will make it easier for Target customers to incorporate more environmentally responsible, sustainable choices into their lives than using traditional disposable tableware made from petroleum-based plastics and polystyrene.
Committed to worldwide social and environmental causes, World Centric gives at least 25% or more of their profits to programs that promote economic development, education and self-sufficiency. In 2017, the company reached a milestone of giving over $1,240,000 in cash and product donations to organizations centered on these initiatives.
"More consumers than ever want to find brands that are cleaner and safer for people and the environment, and also give back to the community," added Stephany. "World Centric is a perfect tableware solution to meet all of these needs at Target."
