RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- WorkSmart, a leading provider of Information Technology services and solutions in North Carolina, announced today CEO Ron Unger's participation in IMPACT Leadership Village (ILV), a living and learning community established by North Carolina State University's University Housing. The ILV, started in the fall of 2009, is an interdisciplinary community for first and second year students providing opportunities for students interested in leadership to live among like-minded peers and learn about leadership models, organizational development and other topics.
Unger spoke with ILV residents as part of a five week IMPACT speaker dinner series, coordinated by the Institute for Nonprofits. Throughout the series, ILV residents gathered to discuss Kouze and Posner's Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership®. Unger's talk focused on the "Encourage the Heart" practice and he shared his own experiences leading a technology company while recognizing and encouraging individual contributions to the team.
"I enjoy working with student leaders," said Unger. "The ILV established at NC State will prove to be a wonderful experience for future leaders and I am pleased to have been able to contribute my experiences to the discussion."
"Unger described his personal journey and how it has helped him shape the organizational goals for a workplace environment in an IT company that fosters exceptional teamwork, creativity and client focus," said Woody Yates, former CEO of Habitat for Humanity Wake County, who attended as the staff representative of the Institute for Nonprofits. "His entire team routinely shares compliments from clients, no matter how large or small, which immediately boosts morale and encourages employees to find new ways to bring value to all client relationships."
