AMES, Iowa, June 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Workiva (NYSE: WK), creator of the Wdesk cloud-based productivity platform for enterprises, today announced that Integrated DNA Technologies, Inc. (IDT) uses Wdesk to link data and build internal controls across its global enterprise to comply with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX).
"We began working toward SOX compliance, even though we were not required to do so as a private company," said Todd Sarbaugh, Controls and Accounting Manager at IDT. "We want to provide financial transparency for our board and auditors."
Sarbaugh knows that legacy word-processing and spreadsheet software lack the user-access, control and automation features he needs, so he built everything in Wdesk from the start. "Wdesk has been great for combining our risk and control matrices and flow charts in one place, which keeps our data consistent and up-to-date," he said.
"The dynamic capabilities of linking data across multiple files and document types – not only from a control perspective but all the way into presentations and dashboards – have helped us save a lot of time and reduce errors," said Sarbaugh. "If we were to try to accomplish these tasks with individual spreadsheets, it would have taken an exponentially longer amount of time to get the level of coherent, dynamic transparency that we needed," he added. "Wdesk had all of the things we wanted already built into it."
"Wdesk allows my files to speak to each other," explained Sarbaugh. "I only have to change something once versus having to change that data in several different places within multiple spreadsheets. That's really where the time-savings comes into play, especially on the continuous maintenance of the SOX environment. I now have more time to educate my colleagues about SOX and get more people involved in the process," he added.
"For private companies that want to do internal controls the right way, and get the benefit of what control compliance is supposed to provide, they should use Wdesk," said Sarbaugh.
