DAYTON, Ohio, July 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Women of Teradata, an employee group of Teradata Corp. (NYSE: TDC), the big data analytics and marketing applications company today, announced college scholarships awarded to two women who will enter college this fall.
Applicants came from Atlanta, Dayton, Ohio, and San Diego. The winners were chosen based on their intention to major in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) field, and on their scholastic achievement, community service, financial need and demonstrated leadership potential. Women of Teradata members raised funds and made personal donations to fund the scholarships, which are awarded for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Winners of the Women of Teradata 2015 Scholarships are:
Stephanie Chan, a 2015 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School in San Diego. Chan will attend Brown University in Providence, RI, where she will major in computer science. While in high school, Chan founded the SPROUTS, a STEM Outreach Program for girls in middle school. She was also the regional director for Youth Political Awareness political action committee, president of the Interact Club and president of Future Doctors of America Club. She earned recognition from the National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation, and was named the Distinguished Young Woman of San Diego academic scholarship competition. Chan is the daughter of Russell and Sheila Chan of San Diego.
Lourdes Sarmiento Martinez, a 2015 graduate of Escondido (CA) High School. Sarmiento is enrolled at the University of California, San Diego, where she will pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. As a high school student, Sarmiento was recognized for outstanding academic achievement in geometry, biology and AP physics, and earned an Award of Excellence for both AP Language and Composition and for Spanish Literature. She was also a member of National Honor Society and California Scholarship Federation, and named Most Valuable Player for the junior varsity cross country team. In 2014, Sarmiento represented her high school at Girls State, a leadership and citizenship program, and also served as a representative to the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. A Pathmaker Intern at the New Palomar Hospital since 2013, Sarmiento has completed more than 250 hours of service. She is the daughter of Eutiquio Sarmiento and Richarda Martinez of Escondido.
