Women in Localization Launches First International Chapter in Ireland
SAN FRANCISCO, June 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Women in Localization, the leading professional organization for women in the localization industry, is delighted to announce the launch of their first international chapter.
Ireland, often christened the "Silicon Valley of Europe", has long been a localization hub of excellence. The localization industry employs over 14,000 people in Ireland and contributes an estimated €680 ($932) million annually to the Irish economy. Many of the world's most recognized software and Internet companies, such as Amazon, Apple, Facebook, IBM, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Oracle, PayPal, and Symantec, have major operations in Ireland, including strategic localization and global customer support. Several major global financial services and medical device companies also have a strong presence in Ireland, including Abbott, Bausch & Lomb, Baxter Healthcare, Boston Scientific, Citigroup, MBNA and Zurich.
"We are very excited to formally launch our first international chapter of Women in Localization. Since our inception in 2008, we have grown to over 1,300 members, many of whom are based outside the United States," explains Eva Klaudinyova, a co-founder and Executive Board Member of Women in Localization in charge of chapter management. "With Ireland's vibrant localization industry presence, it is an ideal location to kick off our international expansion. It will soon be followed by other chapters in Europe, along with Asia and South America."
According to Grainne Maycock, Women in Localization member and founder of the Ireland chapter, "We plan to offer events throughout the year that will be open to all localization professionals in Ireland. We are currently considering an array of activities to provide a collaborative forum that brings industry value, professional development and networking opportunities to our members."
The inaugural event of the Women in Localization Ireland Chapter will be held in conjunction with the Localization World Conference in Dublin, Ireland on June 6. To attend, please RSVP here.
