Wolf Administration Thanks EMS Providers During EMS Week
YORK, Pa., May 26, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Health Secretary Dr. Karen Murphy today observed Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week by thanking the commonwealth's EMS providers for their role in keeping Pennsylvanians healthy and safe.
"EMS providers play a crucial part in delivering urgent and essential care to individuals across Pennsylvania," said Secretary Murphy. "They work tirelessly and selflessly and their dedication is a true testament to the health care field. To the current EMS providers and those who were injured or made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, we thank you for all that you do."
On behalf of Secretary Murphy, Deputy Secretary of Health Planning and Assessment and Acting EMS Director Raphael Barishansky visited White Rose Ambulance in York today to commend the facility's critical care providers.
During today's event, White Rose Ambulance also received the American Heart Association Mission Lifeline gold recognition. This recognizes White Rose Ambulance for their care and treatment to patients dealing with life-threatening heart issues.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health is the lead agency for emergency medical services in the commonwealth. Within the Department of Health, the Bureau of EMS is responsible for the statewide development and coordination of a comprehensive system to reduce premature death and disability.
Pennsylvania has more than 45,000 certified EMS providers who work for over 1,300 licensed ground and air EMS agencies which provide services in Pennsylvania. These providers respond to more than one million requests for service each year.
