Wolf Administration Highlights Pennsylvania's Manufacturing Sector and the 'Jobs that Pay' Initiative

Governor Wolf Issues Proclamation for Pennsylvania Manufacturing Week

HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In recognition of the importance of the manufacturing sector to the growth of the middle class and Pennsylvania's economy, Governor Tom Wolf proclaimed Sept. 28 through Oct. 2 Pennsylvania Manufacturing Week in order to raise awareness of the important role that manufacturing plays in both the commonwealth and the nation.

"Manufacturing has long been the foundation of the state's economy and Pennsylvania's communities," Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Dennis Davin said. "It is important that we make new investments in 21st century manufacturing and continue to support robust private sector growth as the industry continues to create jobs that pay throughout the commonwealth."

In his proclamation, Governor Wolf encouraged all citizens to take advantage of related programs and opportunities in the manufacturing industry.

The governor's 2015-16 Budget includes major initiatives to build on Pennsylvania's manufacturing strength to create new, good-paying jobs through the establishment of the "Made in Pennsylvania" Job Creation Program to provide $5 million in tax credits for manufacturers that create good-paying, middle-class jobs. Additionally, the IRC Manufacturing Initiative will provide $5 million to mobilize talents of PA's research universities to advance manufacturing technology and commercialization.

Manufacturing accounts for $79 billion in economic impact and boasts more than nearly 14,500 manufacturing establishments throughout the state. The sector employs more than 569,000 Pennsylvanians with an average annual compensation of $62,140, 18 percent higher than the statewide average for all industries.

Pennsylvania Manufacturing Week is a part of a national recognition of the outstanding career opportunities available in a variety of industries and the significant impact manufacturing has on the economy.
