IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- WNC, a national investor in real estate and community development initiatives, announced today that President and Chief Executive Officer Will Cooper Jr. formally endorsed Democratic candidate Harley Rouda for election to the United State House of Representatives for California's 48th district on behalf of the National Association of Home Builders. Cooper serves on the board of trustees for BUILD-PAC, NAHB's political action committee. Rouda is challenging long-time Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher in a race that has garnered national attention.
"As one of the leaders of the low-income housing tax credit industry, WNC is a champion of affordable housing development and preservation," said Cooper. "We are pleased to have represented the NAHB in its endorsement of Harley Rouda, who built his career in the housing industry as a business leader and entrepreneur. His experience in the private sector creating jobs and solving problems is exactly what we need in the next Congress to move this country forward."
Cooper formally endorsed candidate Rouda at a luncheon reception hosted by BUILD-PAC, the National Association of Home Builders' political action committee. The event was held on Aug. 6 at the Emerald Cove Senior Apartments, a 164-unit affordable housing community for seniors in Huntington Beach. WNC provided $3.6 million in tax credit equity to help fund the preservation and modernization of Emerald Cove, which reopened in 2011.
Housing is a vital function of the local, state and national economies which accounts for approximately 15 percent of the nation's gross domestic product. NAHB has stated that it believes this is a critical election year and that it is important to elect pro-housing, pro-business candidates to Congress in order to ensure that the housing and economic recovery continues to move forward.
"We are proud to endorse Harley Rouda for Congress," said NAHB Chairman Randy Noel, a custom home builder from LaPlace, La. "As a successful entrepreneur, he knows that small businesses are the backbone of our economy and that housing is critical to a strong and prosperous nation."
