With Simatai Great Wall Closing for Renovation, Tours Changed
BEIJING, June 29 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- One of China's more remote but increasingly popular sections of the Great Wall, Simatai, has been closed off for renovation. Authorities say it will be two years, which means three seasons before it is reopened.
The China Guide (www.TheChinaGuide.com), a western managed tour company, has adjusted its tours for these changes.
"One of our most popular tours is Sleep on the Great Wall, which included a hike to Simatai. We continue to offer this tour with a couple of slight changes. We now exit the wall before Simatai, cutting a couple of miles off the hike. We have also had to change our place of lunch, which we previously did in Simatai village," says Peter Danford, American owner of The China Guide. "It is good the Chinese government is making improvements to the infrastructure at this popular section of The Great Wall. We look forward to it reopening, but in the meantime we carry on with business as usual."
There is also a popular day hike done from Jinshanling to Simatai which now also ends short of Simatai. It can also be changed to the Jinshanling to Gubeikou section if people wish, although this is a more rough section of the wall.
