PLYMOUTH, Wis., Jan. 22, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- A new report issued by the American Trucking Associations revealed that large truckload carriers had an 87% driver turnover rate in the third quarter of 2018, while small carriers experienced 72% turnover.* Despite these trends, Wisconsin-based Service One Transportation ended 2018 with an annual turnover rate of just 6.8%, which places it among the industry's top-performing trucking companies in terms of driver retention.
Service One Transportation provides a full spectrum of supply chain solutions—including truckload, volume less than truckload (LTL) and expedited shipments—within the 48 contiguous U.S. states and all Canadian provinces. The company has ongoing job openings for Class A truck drivers with a commercial driver's license (CDL) in good standing.
"At Service One, we're known for our 'family-first' culture," said Mike Myszewski, co-owner and Vice President of Operations and Logistics at Service One Transportation. "Not only do we offer excellent pay and benefits, but we strive to ensure our drivers have a good work/life balance. This is why we've been able to attract and retain a highly qualified workforce and why we have so many satisfied drivers who have made a long-term career here."
Among the company's newest hires are Gary Pezze and Rachel Leibovici, a couple who were referred by a fellow driver and recently marked their one-year anniversary with Service One. "We liked the small-company feel and personal touch, and the positive endorsements from current drivers really sealed the deal," noted Pezze, a Marine Corps veteran who started trucking in 2016.
In recognition of Pezze's Armed Forces service as well as his drive and hard work on the job, Service One Transportation assigned him to one of the company's military-themed Kenworth tractor-trailers with custom graphics. "Two and a half years into my driving career and I am already in my dream truck," Pezze enthused. "I love this company and I don't ever see myself leaving this place."
Leibovici concurs with her boyfriend's high opinion of Service One. "From Day One, we were treated exceptionally well; and that hasn't changed," she remarked. "It's such an awesome work environment, and someplace where you can actually have fun on the job."
Driver Jon Bender, a former volunteer firefighter, is approaching his fifth year with Service One Transportation. He provided input on the specs and design of a custom-wrapped Kenworth that honors him and other firefighters, and he is now driving that unit. "Service One took the time to get to know me, and I could tell they really wanted what was best for me," he explained. "My dispatcher has been very accommodating of my work and destination preferences. As a single guy, I want to maximize earnings; and I am making substantially more money now than I was at my previous job."
Bender is grateful for his employer's confidence in his abilities. "There's a saying in this industry: 'If the wheels aren't turning, you aren't earning.' I appreciate that Service One trusts me to run my truck like it's my own business. They allow me to make and change appointments, work directly with customers and maximize the time the truck is moving." He concluded, "I found a home at Service One, and I plan to be here until I retire."
