Wisconsin Mortgage Bankers Association to Meet with Congressional Delegation in Washington, D.C. on Critical Housing Issues
MADISON, Wis., June 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Several members of the Wisconsin Mortgage Bankers Association (WMBA) will travel to Washington, D.C. this week for a housing industry advocacy conference where they will meet with Wisconsin's Congressional Delegation to discuss housing finance reform, among other issues.
"We are proud and excited to go to Washington, D.C. to represent Wisconsin's real estate finance industry," said Nicholas DelTorto of Inlanta Mortgage. "It is important for our Members of Congress to hear directly from us. We hope to leave Washington having educated them about how a sustainable housing finance system would promote economic growth in Wisconsin and throughout the country."
As part of the Mortgage Bankers Association's (MBA) annual National Advocacy Conference, five of Wisconsin's mortgage lenders will be in the nation's capital on June 20th and 21st. The WMBA will take part in several educational seminars and roundtables, and speak with key Members of Congress on Capitol Hill.
During discussions with their federal representatives, local Wisconsin mortgage bankers will place a heavy focus on housing finance reform. The national MBA released a proposal at the beginning of the year recommending a newly structured secondary mortgage market. The WMBA will seek to educate the Wisconsin Congressional Delegation of this proposal and its benefits for the state and the country.
"The patchwork placed on the housing finance system was a direct result of the 2008 financial crisis, and it should have been addressed years ago," said DelTorto. "There has been a flurry of conversations surrounding reform among congressional committees, so hopefully our appearance in Washington will solidify the urgent need for a stronger and more vibrant housing finance system."
