REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Feb. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, announced today that Wireless Packet Core (WPC) market revenues grew 21% over the last year during the fourth quarter of 2011.

For the full year 2011, Ericsson maintained its market share lead in revenues, followed by Huawei and Cisco Systems. Huawei edged Ericsson for 2011 lead by license count, followed by Nokia Siemens.
Recently, Ericsson and Juniper have both signed contracts for their new EPC devices, and another vendor exited the aggressive EPC market.
Fixed-line operators developing WiFi services are emerging as a new opportunity for Wireless Packet Core vendors.

"Vendors have shipped an estimated 3.2 billion subscriber related licenses to services providers as of the fourth quarter," said Chris DePuy, Analyst of Wireless Packet Core at Dell'Oro Group. "The Wireless Packet Core market growth is increasingly driven by LTE and the second generation of equipment, EPC. A third growth driver – the WiFi market – is emerging and it appears that the market for Packet Core equipment will expand to include fixed-line service providers."

The report shows that overall wireless packet core data-carrying and data-managing equipment used by service provisurders to support wireless device access to data and advanced services reached over $2.8 billion in 2011.
