WIRED and Nokia have launched the #MakeTechHuman podcast—a new show, hosted by The Nerdist's Matt Mira, that explores key technology issues such as artificial intelligence, privacy and security, connectivity, and equality.
"Our goal with this podcast is to host a series of conversations that will impact global discourse, human behavior, and even product development and policy-making," Mira said.
The first episode features a conversation with Monica Lewinsky and tackles online shaming and cyberbullying. Lewinsky is a social activist, Vanity Fair contributor, and ambassador for Bystander Revolution, an antibullying organization. "One of the most powerful and challenging crossroads is where tech and humanity meet—and sometimes collide," said Lewinsky. "While the Internet has made us a more globally connected society, it can also disconnect us from humanity—our own and seeing it in others. That is the crux of the pandemic we face with cyberbullying and online harassment."
"Online we've got a compassion deficit— an empathy crisis," Lewinsky added. "We need to communicate, consume content, comment, and click with compassion."
Nokia's chief marketing officer, Barry French, said, "We wanted to dive deeper into the issues that people are talking about, the things they care about that truly will have an impact on our lives in the future. Through the podcast platform, we're able to broaden the access to even more global thought leaders and share those engaging and thoughtful conversations about the future of humanity and technology in a way we haven't before."
