She has also served as an associate general counsel and managing attorney for Duke Energy. In that role, Vaughn led and managed the legal team for the company's nuclear generation department. Vaughn has also managed various other legal functions at Duke, including those supporting environmental, health & safety, compliance, bulk power marketing, real estate, and litigation. Vaughn is also a former director of the company's federal governmental affairs. She started her career at Duke as an attorney advising the company leadership on labor and employment matters. With this background, Vaughn brings to Winston more than 20 years of experience procuring outside legal services in the energy industry, thereby providing the firm a useful perspective on client needs and expectations.
"We are delighted to welcome Lisa and her enormous talent, energy and experience to our nationally acclaimed energy group," said Dave Repka, chair of the firm's nuclear energy team. "The depth of her success in managing complex issues of concern to the power industry will greatly increase the scope of our services for energy companies nationwide as well as in the Charlotte region. Certainly, Lisa's arrival at Winston will be good news to the Charlotte business community, a city emerging as a key energy hub."
Vaughn's commitment to the industry is reflected in her role as vice chair of the Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited's Legal Advisory Committee. She is also a member of both the Nuclear Energy Institute's Lawyers' Steering Committee and Integrated Used Fuel Working Group.
"Through my work at Duke, I have gained great admiration and respect for the nuclear industry, its mission, and the dedicated people who carry it out," said Vaughn. "I am very excited to have the opportunity to support a more diverse client base in a firm with the stature of Winston & Strawn."
Vaughn earned her J.D., cum laude, from the Campbell University School of Law in Buies Creek, N.C.
