Winston & Strawn Expands International Litigation and Arbitration Practice With Arrival of Mark Bravin and Don Wallace, Jr.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Winston & Strawn LLP announced today that it has significantly expanded its globally renowned international litigation and arbitration group with the addition of Mark N. Bravin and Don Wallace, Jr., to its Washington, D.C. office. They join the firm as partner and of counsel, respectively. Before joining Winston, Bravin and Wallace practiced at Morgan Lewis & Bockius, where Bravin headed that firm's international arbitration group and Wallace was of counsel.

Bravin's practice, which spans more than 30 years, focuses on diverse transnational litigation and commercial arbitration disputes involving private parties as well as sovereign governments before various courts within the United States and before international arbitral tribunals. In addition, Bravin has significant experience advising clients on international regulatory and enforcement issues as well as on those matters touching upon administrative law relating to customs, export controls, embargoes and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Most recently, Bravin has represented the government of Romania in an investment dispute under the Romania-Greece bilateral investment treaty before the World Bank's International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). He is also noted for having managed many complex claims on behalf of Americans before the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal in The Hague, involving expropriations of investments and other disputes following the Iranian Revolution. He has a B.A. from the University of California (Los Angeles), an M.P.P. from Harvard University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Wallace, a professor at Georgetown University Law Center, serves as chair of the International Law Institute, is a member of the Secretary of State's Advisory Committee on Private International Law and participates in the UNCITRAL working group on arbitration. He is widely regarded as an authority on international law, and has counseled foreign governments and private companies on their dealings with foreign governments. His practice has focused on various fields of international trade and investment, international litigation and arbitration. He has a specialty in international public procurement, and also is involved in aspects of privately financed infrastructure. In addition, Professor Wallace has been an ICSID arbitrator appointed by Egypt in two cases and is co-author of a leading treatise on investor-state arbitration, published by Oxford University Press. He received a B.A. from Yale University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
