Winston & Strawn Expands Asian Presence With Four New Litigation Attorneys in Hong Kong; Welcomes Partner Adrian Yip
HONG KONG and BEIJING and SHANGHAI, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Winston & Strawn LLP announced today that it is taking the next step in its ongoing expansion by adding a prominent commercial litigation partner, Adrian Yip, to its Hong Kong office. Yip is joined by three associates who are also experienced in complex litigation, including securities and intellectual property disputes, as well as white-collar criminal defense. Yip's litigation and arbitration practice concentrates on resolving diverse cross-border and intellectual property disputes throughout Asia, including trade secrets. His substantial corporate compliance experience includes sensitive internal investigations and high-profile regulatory or licensing inquiries. And he has counseled numerous U.S.-based as well as Asia-based companies on investment restructuring issues, joint venture formation, and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act enforcement. Many of Yip's engagements have been on behalf of large European companies. For instance, he has represented a European toy manufacturer in its enforcement program involving alleged counterfeit activities in mainland China. Yip has also acted on behalf of a major Japanese Bank in the recovery of significant assets in China via arbitration proceedings before the London Court of International Arbitration.
The associates joining Yip are Cliff Mok, Philip Kwok, and Genevieve Ku. Mok focuses on commercial, intellectual property, and white collar crime disputes. Kwok's practice concentrates on regulatory inquiries, commercial disputes, and corporate liquidations. And Ku handles complex commercial and shareholder disputes, as well as the liquidation and administration of personal and business estates.
The latest additions to Winston & Strawn's Hong Kong office, which was opened at the end of 2008, follow the opening of offices in Beijing and Shanghai in 2009. In addition to introducing the newest additions to its Hong Kong office, Winston anticipates growing its Beijing and Shanghai offices significantly as well.
"The addition of these talented attorneys adds to our already strong team in Asia," said Thomas Fitzgerald, Winston & Strawn's managing partner. "As the world market continues to rebound from last year's downturn, we see Asia, and China particularly, continuing to play an increasingly important role in our firm's expansion plans."
"Adrian's arrival gives us a wider range of experience in arbitrating and litigating complex commercial disputes that cut across many industries as well as political borders," said Simon Luk, chairman of the firm's Asian practice and who is resident in Winston's Hong Kong office. "The arrival of Adrian's diverse team of litigators also perfectly complements our international transactional practice in Hong Kong," added David Hall-Jones, managing partner of the firm's Asian offices.
Said Yip: "We are very pleased to join Winston because it's the right fit for us. The firm's commitment to strategically expanding on a global basis provides us with an attractive platform from which we think we can best serve our clients and grow our practice."
Besides English, Yip is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and speaks native Cantonese Chinese. He graduated with a bachelor of laws degree, with honors, from the University of Hong Kong, and obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the same university.
