Winnie Launches Los Angeles Child Care Discovery Platform, Partners with WeeCare
Two mom-founded tech startups join forces to bring high-quality preschools and daycares to the communities that need them most
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Winnie, an online platform for parenting, today launched Los Angeles' first comprehensive child care discovery platform to help families find high-quality daycares and preschools. Winnie also announced a partnership with LA-based WeeCare, a company that empowers educators to start and operate their own home daycare business.
65% of parents said finding child care was one of the most frustrating and difficult tasks they faced, according to a recent survey that Winnie conducted. Winnie further found that over half of licensed child care providers have no web presence at all and over 70% of parents have to rely on word of mouth to find providers. By bringing these caregivers online, Winnie is connecting parents to their available options and connecting these small businesses with new potential customers.
"When I went back to work after having my daughter I was shocked at how hard it was to find great child care," said Sara Mauskopf, CEO and co-founder of Winnie, now a parent of two who previously worked at Google, YouTube, Twitter, and Postmates. "We've brought all daycares and preschools online into a single, easy-to-use interface. It's game changing."
Parents can use Winnie's free mobile apps or website to see all of LA's licensed child care providers on a map and filter by age range, cost, schedule, and available openings. They can also share their experiences and read reviews from other parents.
Beyond discovery, parents face another challenge — the lack of available spaces in high-quality child care programs. In LA, there is only one open spot for every 6 infants or toddlers looking for care. The parents surveyed by Winnie cited a lack of affordable care and a lack of open spots as the two main reasons why finding child care is challenging. Winnie's partnership with WeeCare is designed to address this problem by creating quality, affordable care where it is needed most.
"When there is enough demand for child care in a given area, WeeCare supports top local caregivers and educators to open their own home daycare to satisfy that demand," explained Jessica Chang, CEO and co-founder of WeeCare. "We are so excited to partner with Winnie. Over a short period of time, they have been able to build an incredible community that fosters positive family development. We're proud to be working together to create a foundation for change in early child care across the United States."
Winnie previously launched its child care discovery platform in the San Francisco Bay Area, Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and New York City and will be expanding to other regions in the near future.
