The 2011 winners are profiled in the Aug. 22/29 edition of National Underwriter Property & Casualty. The winners and links to their individual profiles include:
- Champion: City of Knoxville, cited for its ability to integrate various workforce programs for employees' health with workers' comp.
- Honorable Mention: Kennametal, cited for its "100% Safe" program that cut workers' comp costs by 50 percent within two years.
- Honorable Mention: Community Health Systems (CHS), cited for its safety program to safely move patients and reduce costly injuries.
"All three winners are role models for their peers," said Bryant Rousseau, group editorial director for National Underwriter Property & Casualty. "It is also the first year a public risk manager has won this award. It's refreshing to hear their success stories and commitment to keeping risk and safety programs top-of-mind for their employees. People are a company's greatest asset and the winners of this year's award have set a great example of how taking care of your own can also cut costs for the business."
The three winners received their awards from Mr. Rousseau and an NCCI official during a special ceremony at the Workers' Compensation Educational Conference in Orlando on Aug. 22, where National Underwriter Property & Casualty puts together a National Trends program.
The trio of winning organizations will share more of the secrets of their success during a panel discussion led by Caroline McDonald, assistant managing editor of National Underwriter Property & Casualty, as well as an NCCI representative on Aug. 23. Highlights of that roundtable on loss control, safety and risk management will appear in the Oct. 17 edition of National Underwriter Property & Casualty.
Those with a unique risk management approach, or success story in how to better handle workers' comp costs and exposures, are invited to enter next year's award program. Entry material will be available online at PropertyCasualty360.com in February 2012. Or contact Caroline McDonald at [email protected] for details.
