Winnebago Specialty Vehicles Highlights Zero-Emissions Healthcare Possibilities at the Mobile Health Clinics Forum
All-electric mobile outreach vehicle provides a zero emissions environment for community healthcare initiatives at fuel and maintenance savings of up to $200,000 over ten years
CLEVELAND, Sept. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Eliminating exposure to vehicle exhaust emissions for patients seeking healthcare in community outreach vehicles, Winnebago Specialty Vehicles is showcasing an all electric, zero-emissions chassis at the Mobile Health Clinics Forum, September 14-17, 2018 in Cleveland, Ohio. The vehicle is slated to be the first eBloodmobile in service in North America. It eliminates the need for day long vehicle idling and the operation of two on-board generators allowing healthcare systems to collect blood donations in a clean and quiet environment. Based on the average cost of fuel in the US, the eBloodmobile is expected to save $150,000-$200,000 in combined fuel and maintenance savings. Winnebago anticipates the ROI of electric community outreach vehicles compared to internal combustion engine versions to be as little as three years.
"When people donate blood, they are giving of themselves and their time. With the introduction of our all-electric community outreach vehicle, people can now do this in a zero-emission environment," said Ashis Bhattacharya, Vice President, Strategic Planning and Development, and leader of Winnebago's Specialty Vehicles Division. "It's a dynamic time for the healthcare and transportation community, as states are providing more incentives and broadening anti-idling laws. We are seeing the medical community realize the possibilities of our customizable all-electric outreach vehicles to serve a variety of functions beyond blood donation, to such activities as lung or asthma screenings, dentistry or primary care, among others."
Winnebago partnered with Motiv Power Systems, Inc., the U.S. market leader in chassis for medium-duty electric vehicles, for the development and supply of the Ford eQVM approved EPIC all-electric powered chassis. Once fully equipped for deployment, the eBloodmobile will feature four patient beds, two interview rooms, a small waiting area, and small recovery area. The eBloodmobile is designed to hold enough battery charge for eight hours of service plus round-trip travel to and from its home facility. The vehicle has completed significant road testing and delivers an expected range of 85 to 125 miles on a full charge.
"Motiv's EPIC all-electric chassis, paired with Winnebago Industries' highly regarded commercial shell, brings unparalleled reliable performance and functionality as we work together to the support mobile outreach efforts of the healthcare community by providing a clean and quiet environment for patients," said Jim Castelaz, Motiv CEO & Founder.
The same chassis is also featured in world's first all-electric Mobile Lung Unit (eMLU) produced by Winnebago. Powered by a Ford F-53 based EPIC® 6 all-electric chassis from Motiv Power Systems, the specialty healthcare vehicle features the state-of-the-art Samsung NeuroLogica BodyTom Elite®, the world's first portable, full-body, 32-slice CT scanner. The eMLU vehicle is wrapped featuring the American Lung Association and the Ad Council's Saved By The Scan initiative to promote the early detection of lung cancer through screening.
