Wineman Technology Donation to Michigan Tech Furthers Hybrid Vehicle Development

SAGINAW, Mich., June 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Wineman Technology, a leading automotive design and test system integrator, today announced an $80,000 software donation to the hybrid electric vehicle engineering program at Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech), a public research university in Houghton, Michigan. The donation consists of licenses for Dynacar and INERTIA™, and software support.

Wineman Technology donated the software to help Michigan Tech develop a mobile lab that will educate public and private organizations in the development and testing of hybrid vehicle technologies.

Michigan Tech constructed the mobile lab using a $3 million Department of Energy grant funded through the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act. The lab is housed in an expandable, double-wide trailer pulled by a class 8 diesel semi. The 53-foot trailer includes two complete powertrain test cells, four universal lab stations for bench top experiments, and classroom equipment to showcase how electricity is becoming increasingly important in vehicles of all kinds.

Dynacar is a fully validated, real-time vehicle model simulator for developing and testing passenger and light commercial vehicles, from conventional to electric and hybrid. When engineers use Dynacar with INERTIA and National Instruments VeriStand real-time test and simulation software, the result is a fully validated real-time vehicle model simulator that allows engineers to design and test hybrid electric vehicle sub-systems in one complete and customizable environment. With the simulator, traditionally isolated vehicle sub-system hardware and software tests, such as ECU testing and motor simulation in dynamometers, now can be tested within the larger vehicle environment.
