HONG KONG, Dec. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Acker Merrall wrapped up its 2014 vintage yet again as the #1 auction house in Asia for the seventh year in a row thanks to a successful sale which achieved an estimated HKD$38 million/USD$ 4.9 million. A thirty case superlot of Mouton Rothschild from 1982-2011 was the Top Selling Lot at a whopping HKD$1,778,400/USD$229,470. Rare OWCs of 1988 Romanee-Conti and 1990 La Tache took second and third place, selling for HKD$1,284,400/USD$165,729 and HKD$395,200/USD$50,993 respectively. It was a great weekend for DRC, which took five out of the Top Ten lots, and seventeen of the Top 25, cementing the fact that it has replaced Lafite Rothschild as the brand of choice when it comes to the most serious connoisseurs in China. Rounding out the Top 25 Lots were significant OWCs of Bordeaux, of course, including 1989 and 2000 Petrus, 1959 and 1961 Latour, and 1982 Lafite.

The Hong Kong and China markets continue to diversify, with numerous lots beyond the 'Lucky Seven' selling over high estimate. Names such as Jacques Selosse, Louis Roederer, Krug, Dom Perignon, Hubert de Montille, Marquis d'Angerville, Louis Jadot, J.F. Mugnier, G. Roumier, Dugat-Py, Guigal, Chateau Lafleur, Chateau Cos d'Estournel, Chateau Angelus, Chateau Cheval Blanc, Chateau de Beaucastel, Gaja, Masseto, JJ Prum, Dominio de Pingus, Vega Sicilia, Screaming Eagle and Fonseca joined the aforementioned producers, along with other Top Ten brands such as Henri Jayer and Domaine Leroy, with impressive results over the high estimates.
"The two Top Lots of the sale proved once more that when it comes to the most significant lots in the world, there is no place like Hong Kong," said Acker Merrall's CEO, John Kapon. "The average sold lot value was nearly USD$7,000! To achieve USD$5 million in sales in basically 700 lots shows that the most discerning collectors continue to choose Acker Merrall for their most important wines. We look forward to setting the bar very high again in January and continuing to set the pace for the rest of the industry. Just wait till you see what we have in our first 2015 Hong Kong auction on January 31! A legendary collector and name is all I can say for the moment."
Acker Merrall's final auction of 2014 will be in New York City on December 17th, 2014, and the firm's first Hong Kong auction of 2015 will be on January 31st. For more information please visit www.ackerwines.com.
