Window Covering Safety Month Marks 10th Anniversary In October
~ Hunter Douglas Major Supporter with Ongoing Safety Campaign ~
PEARL RIVER, N.Y., Sept. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- In 2003, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Window Covering Safety Council, which includes Hunter Douglas, the leading name in custom window fashions, as well as independent retailers, joined forces to raise awareness of the potential dangers posed to young children by window treatments with cords. They worked together to designate October as "Window Covering Safety Month" to help elevate awareness of the issue. Every year since then, the CPSC and the Window Covering Safety Council have co-sponsored this important initiative, urging consumers to replace older window treatments with today's safer products, or get free retrofit kits from the Window Covering Safety Council (www.windowcoverings.org).

In support of Window Covering Safety Month, Hunter Douglas has always implemented an annual promotion timed to coordinate with it that offers free upgrades to its cordless lifting systems and other innovations on selected products as well as an array of informational materials underscoring the importance of safety at the window. This year is no exception.
"Raising awareness ongoing as new families are created every year is key," said Joe Jankoski, Vice President of Merchandising for Hunter Douglas. "Not only do we support Window Covering Safety Month every year, but window covering cord safety is a top priority for us each and every day. We offer the widest variety of products on the market that eliminate lift cords or substantially reduce access to them."
Every Hunter Douglas product line has one or more options that make it especially appropriate for homes with young children. In fact, the window fashions leader has consistently been at the forefront of the industry with regard to innovating alternative lifting systems that enhance the safety of its window coverings as well as building consumer awareness of window covering safety.
