Wilton Manors Crime Rate Decreases 3 Percent in 2016
WILTON MANORS, Fla., June 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In comparison to 2015, the overall crime rate in the City of Wilton Manors dropped by 3 percent, according to the 2016 annual report released by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Uniform Crime Report (UCR) Program. The data is calculated based on a comparison of population and the number of crimes committed.
"In 2015 our crime rate reached a 20-year low," said Wilton Manors Police Chief Paul O'Connell. "This year we are pleased to report another decrease, which is undeniably due to the brave work of the Wilton Manors Police Department (WMPD) in partnership with our community of residents, visitors and business owners who remain committed to keeping the City as safe as possible for all to enjoy."
From the online community crime mapping tool that analyzes crime data and alerts community members about crimes in their area, to property checks and SmartWater CSI, various public safety programs and software are continually made available to Wilton Manors' stakeholders.
"As Wilton Manors continues to be a popular destination attracting more residents, commercial property owners and visitors the crime rate may fluctuate," said Chief O'Connell. "The key to maintaining a low crime rate, in comparison to both local and regional trends, is an informed community that has access to public safety resources and remains vigilant – travel in groups, and if you see something, say something."
