PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, the premier provider of legal services to technology, life sciences, and growth enterprises worldwide, announced today that Allison J. Bender has joined the firm's privacy and cybersecurity practice as Of Counsel in the Washington, D.C., office.
From 2006 to 2015, Bender was an attorney at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in the Office of the General Counsel, where she advised on cybersecurity laws, regulations, and policies. While at DHS, she also advised on technology programs related to international law, compliance and policy, export controls, and the SAFETY Act. Prior to joining WSGR, she was an attorney at ZwillGen in Washington, D.C., where she provided legal guidance to technology-focused clients on privacy and cybersecurity issues.
"We are delighted to have Allison join our team. Companies in all sectors face real challenges ensuring their compliance with increasingly complicated privacy and data protection standards, both in the U.S. and around the world," said Lydia Parnes, a partner in WSGR's Washington, D.C., office and co-chair of the firm's privacy and cybersecurity practice. "Our team provides comprehensive representation to companies seeking guidance on how to operate and grow their businesses in the face of these complex global standards. We're pleased Allison has joined the firm and expands our expertise in these important areas."
Bender earned an LL.M., in National Security Law with distinction, from Georgetown University in 2012, and her J.D. at Washington and Lee University in 2006. She received her B.A. degree in foreign affairs at the University of Virginia in 2003. She is admitted to practice in California and Washington, D.C., and is CIPP/US and CISSP certified.
In addition to private law practice, Bender is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center and the University of Maryland Baltimore County, teaching courses concerning national security regulation and cyber law.
Bender is the second senior-level attorney to join the firm's privacy and data protection practice in recent months. In October 2018, WSGR announced that Lore Leitner had joined WSGR's London office as Of Counsel.
