PALO ALTO, Calif., May 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, the premier provider of legal services to technology, life sciences, and growth enterprises worldwide, announced today that Lowell Segal has rejoined the firm as a partner in the Palo Alto office. He has more than 15 years of experience representing public and private biopharmaceutical and other life sciences companies, and will continue his practice as a member of the firm's life sciences transactions team. Most recently, Segal was a partner in Ropes & Gray's East Palo Alto, California, office.
Segal has represented pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device clients in a significant number of complex transactional matters, including collaborations, spin-outs, divestitures, asset purchases, product and technology licenses, and supply, manufacturing, and distribution arrangements. He has also represented venture capital firms investing in life sciences, renewable energy, and e-commerce companies.
"From the earliest days of the biotechnology industry, our attorneys have helped biotech companies structure and complete some of the most sophisticated collaborations and partnering transactions," said Doug Clark, managing partner. "With the recent surge in financings and commercial transactions involving life sciences companies, there is increasing client demand for expertise in collaborations, licensing, and other transactions. Lowell's prior experience and familiarity with the firm and our client base makes him a valuable resource for life sciences companies, entrepreneurs, and investors."
From 2000 to 2008, Segal worked as an associate in WSGR's Palo Alto office, initially in the corporate practice and then in the technology transactions practice. He earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2000 and received B.S. and M.A. degrees from Stanford University in 1996. Segal is admitted to practice in California.
WSGR's life sciences practice has grown to include more than 140 attorneys, patent agents, and scientific advisors. A substantial number of the firm's practitioners have advanced degrees in biology, chemistry, engineering, or other scientific fields, and many of them have experience working in laboratory, medical, or research settings. The team also includes attorneys who have served as in-house legal counsel for major life sciences companies.
WSGR was recently named one of Law360's 2015 "Life Sciences Groups of the Year" and was ranked first in the inaugural Life Sciences Law Firm Index published by litigation finance firm Lake Whillans based on research conducted by Breaking Media that looked at law firm corporate, intellectual property, and regulatory practices; experience working with start-up companies; and thought leadership to identify which law firms are the most active and relevant for life sciences companies.
