PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, the premier provider of legal services to technology, life sciences, and growth enterprises worldwide, announced today that Matthew W. Sonsini has rejoined the firm's corporate practice as a partner in the Palo Alto office. Sonsini has more than 20 years of experience advising technology and growth enterprises, and will focus on representing private company clients in venture capital finance and private equity matters.
Sonsini left the firm in 2008 to join The Sobrato Organization (TSO), one of the largest real estate, investment, and philanthropic organizations in Silicon Valley. Throughout his tenure with TSO, Sonsini held several leadership roles, including chief operating officer and, most recently, chief investment officer, foundation trustee, and board secretary. Among his responsibilities, Sonsini directed the strategy and implementation of TSO's securities investment platform (Sobrato Capital), with a broad range of investments in private equity, venture capital, and public equity. He will continue to participate in the Sobrato Capital investment program and serve on TSO's executive committee and the board of trustees of TSO's foundation.
"We couldn't be more excited to welcome Matt back to the firm," said Doug Clark, co-managing partner. "Throughout his career, Matt has developed extraordinarily broad talents as a legal practitioner. He has tremendous expertise to offer clients and he will be an enormous asset to the firm. He was an excellent partner and mentor and it's wonderful to have him back."
In addition to his private practice, Sonsini taught securities law for several years at Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, and previously chaired the American Bar Association's Sub-Committee on Venture Capital Documents.
"I am delighted to rejoin my colleagues and contribute to the firm's expanding private company and private capital practices," said Sonsini. "At the same time, Sobrato Capital remains on an upward trajectory and I look forward to continuing to be involved in its growth."
Sonsini earned his J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law at UC Berkeley and graduated, magna cum laude, from Dartmouth College in 1988.
