William Swelbar to Join OneJet Advisory Team
Leading MIT research engineer to serve alongside MIT Chancellor Cynthia Barnhart
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., April 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- OneJet today announced the appointment of William Swelbar to its executive advisory team for network composition and management. Swelbar, a Research Engineer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's International Center for Air Transportation, will serve in this capacity alongside MIT colleague, Chancellor Cynthia Barnhart.
OneJet's Director of Engineering, Dr. Barry Smith, stated: "Bill is one of the most insightful researchers in understanding the effects and opportunities created by the changing structure of the nation's air transportation system. Having his support as we configure and grow our network will be a tremendous asset."
Smith was formerly Chief Scientist of Sabre, the world's largest airline technology company, as well as President of the Airline Group of International Operational Research Societies (AGIFORS).
OneJet, which inaugurated service from Indianapolis this week, is developing demand-responsive air transportation networks in the eastern U.S. Such networks may sustainably provide increased access to nonstop service in medium-sized communities, at relatively low cost.
Swelbar, in his position with MIT, studies the effects of network carrier consolidation on small and medium size communities. Speaking about the OneJet program, Swelbar commented: "Our research at MIT indicates that the current network carrier system will continue to undergo meaningful change over the next five to seven years. In the face of these changes, access to the OneJet Network will help communities increase nonstop accessibility and maximize regional travel options."
Swelbar continued: "From a public policy perspective, this is a timely and critical initiative. I'm pleased to join the team and assist in expanding this innovative service to more communities over the coming years."
OneJet will announce additional destination points from Indianapolis sequentially beginning April 24th.
