William Kamkwamba, Inventor and Author of "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" to Electrify Penton's Empowering Customers & Cities Conference
Inaugural Event Focused on the Energy Revolution Scheduled for November 4-6 in Chicago
NEW YORK, Sept. 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- If you think one individual cannot make a meaningful contribution to the global energy revolution – think again. Penton's Empowering Customers & Cities (www.theenergytimes.com/chicago), a three-day landmark event developed to change the energy conversation and chart a course for the future of energy usage and delivery, today announced William Kamkwamba, inventor and author of "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" will offer his firsthand account of his inspiring story on Thursday, November 5 at 12:30 p.m.
Empowering Customers & Cities will take place November 4-6, 2015 in Chicago. To register, visit: www.theenergytimes.com/chicago.
Kamkwamba was born in Malawi, a land withered by drought and hunger. Kamkwamba had read about windmills, and he dreamed of building one that would bring to his small village a set of luxuries that only 2% of Malawians could enjoy: electricity and running water. With a small pile of once-forgotten science textbooks; some scrap metal, tractor parts, and bicycle halves he built a windmill to power four lights and two radios in his family home. The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is a true story about human inventiveness and its power to overcome crippling adversity.
Marty Rosenberg, Editorial Director, The Energy Times and Co-Chair, Empowering Customers & Cities said, "We are honored that William has agreed to speak at our event. His determination to bring electricity to his village one windmill at a time is inspiring and his fortitude has assisted with additional solutions including clean water, malaria prevention and solar power and lighting. We look forward to learning more about his story firsthand. I am sure we will all leave wondering how we can make a difference in our own cities, schools and communities."
