Will Rogers Institute Honors Dr. Elizabeth G. Nabel With Prestigious Award for Outstanding Lung Research
BURBANK, Calif., Feb. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Elizabeth G. Nabel was presented the Will Rogers Institute's Annual Award for Lung Research in Los Angeles, California. The annual award honors an eminent scientist for extraordinary work leading to advancements in treatment for lung diseases. She is the fifth recipient of the prestigious award from the Will Rogers Institute.

Dr. Nabel is president of Brigham and Women's/Faulkner's Hospital, a teaching affiliate with Harvard Medical School. Prior to this position, Dr Nabel was director at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at the National Institutes of Health. She also served on the medical faculty at the University of Michigan for 12 years, where she published extensively on vascular biology and molecular cardiology.
As a physician-scientist, Dr. Nabel has made substantial contributions to the understanding of molecular genetics of cardiovascular diseases. Her current work has focused on the rare premature aging disorder, Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome. Among her leadership efforts as NHLBI director, Dr. Nabel launched new scientific programs in genetics and genomics, stem and progenitor cell biology, translational research, global health, and support for young investigators. Nabel is also the recipient of many awards and serves on the editorial board of many scientific journals including the New England Journal of Medicine.
