WidePoint subsidiary ORC awarded first DoD approval to issue PIV-I credentials that address the needs of more than 40 million users worldwide.
MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- WidePoint Corporation (NYSE Mkt: WYY), a leading provider of Managed Mobility Services (MMS) specializing in Cybersecurity and Telecommunications Lifecycle Management (TLM) solutions, announced today that its subsidiary Operational Research Consultants Inc. (ORC) has been approved by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to issue External Certificate Authority (ECA) Personal Identity Verification Interoperable (PIV-I) credentials that comply with DoD requirements. ORC is the first vendor to receive approval to issue these enhanced credentials.
The DoD PIV-I can be used globally, addressing the requirements of the more than 40 million DoD contractors, trading partners, and other individuals to authenticate and securely communicate with the DoD's information systems.
"The ability to use PIV-I credentials with Android, Apple, and Microsoft mobile devices for access into approved DoD networks and software applications is a tremendous step forward in mitigating cybersecurity risk and attacks," said Steve Komar, chief executive officer of WidePoint. "The DoD approval recognizes WidePoint as the leader in the provisioning of strong identity credentials and expands our next generation mobile-focused identity management market strategy."

Turissini, chief technology officer of WidePoint. "It ensures that only authorized and protected devices access enterprise resources hosted in any private or public cloud environment."
"The ECA PIV-I is an important step in achieving a fully interoperable cyber authentication ecosystem across federal, commercial, and international markets," said John Atkinson, chief sales and marketing office of WidePoint. "With this approval, WidePoint offers a standardized, high-grade credentialing service across a growing number of communities of interest that will provide a significant revenue opportunity for the company."
