Wi-SUN Alliance Opens Certification Program For Home Area Network Communication For ECHONET Lite
Certifying Products to Help Accelerate Home Energy Management Deployments
MORGAN HILL, Calif., Nov. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wi-SUN Alliance, a global ecosystem of companies seeking to accelerate the implementation of Communications Networking and the Internet of Things (IoT), today announced that the global certification program for Home Area Networks (HAN) Communications for ECHONET Lite is now open for a wide range of consumer, enterprise, and operator-specific products. These products include Home Energy Management Systems, HAN devices and modules. Test Equipment (TE) and Certified Test Bed Units (CTBUs) have been deployed in Wi-SUN's test facilities in Japan for members to begin the certification process.
The communications profile is an interoperable, reliable and scalable low power wireless standard for Home Area Networks, and supports communication between a Home Energy Management System (HEMS) and HAN devices.
"Developing the technical and test specifications for HAN communications supporting ECHONET Lite has been a collaborative effort among many members, including TE vendors, CTBU vendors and our test lab facilities," said Phil Beecher, chairman, Wi-SUN Alliance. "This test program is key to developing products that will accelerate the adoptions of Home Energy Management Systems."
"The new certification program is most powerful to certify interoperable and reliable wireless devices for ECHONET Lite based home electrical appliances," said Dr. Hiroshi Harada, Wi-SUN Alliance board co-chair and chair of the ECHONET WG. "By using wireless devices that have both Wi-SUN HAN certification and B-route certification, vendors can develop most simplified and smartest ECHONET based HEMS products."
