NEW YORK, June 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Whyte & Mackay, the world's 5th largest producer of Scotch whisky, today announced that The Dalmore Highland Single Malt and Jura Island Single Malt have won Double Gold awards at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC), one of the most influential spirits competitions in the world. These accolades exemplify Whyte & Mackay's dedication to creating truly unique whiskies for consumers around the world.
With nearly two decades of experience, the SFWSC has become one of the world's most respected and influential spirits competitions. The 2017 Competition featured 2,253 spirit entries from all corners of the world. A panel of industry experts awarded The Dalmore 12 and Jura 10 Double Gold, placing them among the world's top ranking Single Malt Scotch whiskies.
Founded in 1839, The Dalmore distillery has defined the luxury single malt whisky category through its unbroken chain of exceptional whisky creators who have pioneered the art of maturation and cask finishing. The Dalmore was among the first to create a single malt aged 12 years in the late 1800s, when standard practice was to age for six years. Today, The Dalmore 12 is matured for an initial nine years in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, and then divided for its final flourish. One half remains in the bourbon barrels, while the other is transferred to 30 year old Gonzalez Byass Matusalem Oloroso sherry butts, available exclusively to The Dalmore distillery. The spirit is finally reunited to create this phenomenal whisky, reflective of The Dalmore house style with notes of citrus fruits, chocolate and aromatic spices, followed by vanilla pod and roasted coffee on the finish. The Dalmore 12 is available at retailers nationwide with a suggested retail price of $64.99 per 750ml bottle.
New to the US market, Jura 10 is the first release in the new core line from this singular Island distillery. While many distilleries create either peated or unpeated whiskies, Jura 10 marries together the best of both for a truly unique Island Single Malt that is subtly smoky with a sweet Sherry cask finish. It is matured for ten years in American White Oak ex-bourbon barrels with an aged Oloroso Sherry cask finish. Copper gold in color, Jura 10 has aromas of fruit, cracked pepper and dark chocolate, followed by nectarines, ginger and freshly ground coffee on the palate with a subtle touch of smoke on the finish. In addition to this year's SFWSC award, Jura 10 also won Gold at the 2017 World's Spirits Competition, and was awarded 94 Points at the 2017 Ultimate Spirits Challenge. Jura 10 is available at retailers nationwide with a suggested retail price of $54.99 per 750ml bottle.
