COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrate this holiday season with an unforgettable gift that will warm the heart of any Craver. The mouth-watering flavor of White Castle's® Original Slider can only be matched by its distinct aroma. Now, White Castle® is offering its Original Slider-scented candle that will tempt any Craver to make a run for Sliders. It's available online at HouseofCrave.com with 100 percent of net proceeds benefiting the nation's largest autism research and advocacy organization, Autism Speaks.
Created by Laura Slatkin, the award-winning founder of Nest Fragrances, the Original Slider®-scented candle comes in a ceramic replica of the signature White Castle Slider box. Slatkin, an autism advocate, is known as the queen of home fragrance for such loyal customers as Elton John, Vera Wang and the British Royal Family.
White Castle® is offering the limited-edition Original Slider®-scented candle for $15 each. Orders must be placed at HouseofCrave.com by December 17 to receive it in time for Christmas.
"White Castle® is excited to make the Slider-scented candle available to our legion of Cravers again this year," said Erin Shannon, corporate relations manager at White Castle® and fourth generation family member. "We are overwhelmed and inspired by the generosity and enthusiasm of the Cravers who purchase these candles and support this cause."
Since 2010, the Original Slider®-scented candle has garnered great support from Craver Nation with more than 10,000 candles sold, raising more than $150,000. The Castle Shares™ program that supports these efforts donated more than $650,000 as part of its annual Puzzle Piece Campaign during Autism Awareness Month in April.
In the past five years, White Castle® has donated more than $3 million to Autism Speaks primarily one dollar at a time from customer donations as part of the puzzle piece campaign and the sales of the steam-grilled-on-a-bed-of-onions Original Slider®-scented candle.
Autism Speaks is the nation's largest advocacy organization benefiting autism research. Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders. Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show the prevalence of autism in the U.S. has risen to an estimated 1 in 68 children. This new estimate is roughly 30 percent higher than the estimate for 2008 (1 in 88). The number for boys diagnosed with autism also has increased to 1 in 42. It was previously 1 in 54 boys. Scientists have yet to determine a definitive cause for autism.
