"This is our 90th birthday year, so we are looking for the ultimate Cravers who have made White Castle a part of their lives," said Jamie Richardson, vice president of corporate relations. "The team at White Castle and our panel of judges look forward every year to reading stories ranging from the hysterically funny to the sentimentally sweet. We believe that once people get the Crave, there's nothing holding them back."
Family owned since 1921 and the nation's first fast-food hamburger chain, White Castle is renowned for the loyalty of its fans, fondly known as Cravers. Since the 2001 creation of the Hall of Fame, more than 7,000 Cravers have vied for the honor. Only 80 have been inducted, including rock musicians, movie stars and even a Greek Orthodox priest who satisfied his crave after a 40-day religious fast. Their stories are preserved in the Hall of Fame section of the White Castle website.
Those who complete their entries by the July 31 deadline will receive a memento. Stories will be evaluated for originality, duration and extent of the "Crave." Official rules are available at www.whitecastle.com/cravers/hall-of-fame-rules.
This will be the second year White Castle will induct someone into the "Cravers in Extremis" distinguished category to the Cravers Hall of Fame. Starting in 2010 White Castle inducted a public figure, celebrity or pop icon who has publicly shown their love of White Castle. The first "Cravers in Extremis" was Alex Weresow, a Los Angeles television producer who's worked on ABC's "WifeSwap" and MTV's "Made" and "True Life" series.
