COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- America's first fast-food hamburger chain, White Castle, today announced PHASE ONE of its plan to expand its empire with a flagship concept in Brussels, Belgium.
"We were the first fast food hamburger chain in the United States, and we're quickly approaching our 100th anniversary so it's time to make a bold statement," Jamie Richardson, vice president of White Castle, said. "We were inspired by our work with Unique Belgique, our partner in our new Belgian Waffle products, to convert an actual castle into an actual Castle."
White Castle found the historic castle in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes. An artistic rendering of the proposed restaurant is available upon request.
"Our move to Belgium is pretty unbelievable," Richardson said. "We can't wait to hear what people actually think about it."
Background on White Castle's Waffle Menu
White Castle's 2014 hit sandwich, the Chicken & Waffle Slider, is a breaded chicken breast topped with creamy country gravy and savory bacon crumbles, all served between two warm Belgian waffles. The sandwich is served all day.
New in 2015, Strawberries and Cream Waffles will also be offered throughout the day at White Castle. Two mini Belgian waffles are smothered with sliced strawberries in a sweet sauce and topped with hand-piped whipped cream.
Belgian Waffle Breakfast Sliders, part of a complete breakfast menu, are available starting at midnight at most Castles, running through 10:30 a.m. Each Breakfast Waffle Slider includes bacon or sausage, a fresh-cracked egg and cheese between two sweet, fluffy Belgian waffles.
