BENTON HARBOR, Mich., June 19, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Whirlpool Corporation announced a renewal of its longtime collaboration with Habitat for Humanity for the remainder of 2017, continuing to provide a new range and refrigerator for every new Habitat for Humanity home in the U.S.
"We thank Whirlpool for their long-term support of helping families obtain decent and affordable housing," said Colleen Finn Ridenhour, senior vice president of Development, Habitat for Humanity International. "Whirlpool's generosity has helped families transform their lives, and we look forward to continuing to work together."
For the eighth consecutive year, Whirlpool Corporation will participate in a blitz build with the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University where students and company employees will work together to build a home alongside Habitat homeowners in 10 days. The home, which will include Whirlpool brand appliances, will be purchased by a local family in the Bloomington, Ind. area.
Whirlpool Corporation will also continue its Habitat Ambassador Program, which was developed to create champions for the non-profit organizations the company supports. Whirlpool Ambassadors are actively engaged in the collaboration with Habitat and fulfill leadership positions on local Habitat boards, participate in construction activities and represent Whirlpool at Habitat-related events.
"We're excited to continue this successful support of Habitat for Humanity," said Deb O'Connor, director of global corporate reputation and community relations for Whirlpool Corporation. "Whirlpool is committed to helping our global and local communities while continuing to help families become homeowners. Our long term relationship with Habitat is a source of pride for our employees, company and community."
Since the collaboration began in 1999, nearly 92,000 Habitat homes in the U.S. have included a Whirlpool refrigerator® and range. Additionally, Whirlpool Corporation has helped build more than 175 houses around the world. Whirlpool Corporation employees participate in builds where the company's manufacturing operations, customer service and administrative offices are located, such as Tulsa, Oklahoma; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Clyde, Ohio; Greenville, Ohio; Marion, Ohio; Findlay, Ohio; and Benton Harbor, Michigan. Build events and locations vary each year.
