WASHINGTON, Aug. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- At the launch of the White House's Joining Forces initiative in April 2011, Siemens Corporation pledged to fill 10 percent of the company's 3,000 open positions with veterans. Today, at an event with President Obama, it was announced that Siemens exceeded its goal and will increase its commitment to actively seek and hire the best and brightest from the nation's military by reserving an additional 150 positions for veterans.

"Siemens is in the enviable position of being at the forefront of job growth in this country and we are honored to have the opportunity to hire extremely talented and skilled military veterans to fill jobs that demand their advanced skill set," said Peter Solmssen, Chairman of Siemens Corporation.
With today's announcement, more than 450 veterans will have new jobs with Siemens by the end of the year. To assist in these efforts, Siemens has developed a national partnership with Orion International, a company that helps find, select and hire veterans. Many of the hires from this partnership are placed in Field Service, Technician, or Specialist roles.
"The comprehensive technical training and experience gained in military service is extremely valuable in today's workplace," said Mike Panigel, Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Siemens Corporation. "Veterans possess a unique skill set in technical areas that are a great match with many of our over 3,000 open positions."
Siemens has also mobilized job training and mentoring initiatives through the Siemens Veterans Network, the first national employee resource group at Siemens. With more than 275 members, the group supports veterans through a mentorship program with American Corporate Partners, community outreach events and other organizations that support veterans and their families.
Positions are available within the company's Energy, Industry and Healthcare sectors in divisions such as Renewable Energy, Building Technologies and the Customers Solutions Group. Job categories range from Engineering and Field Service to Manufacturing and Operation, and also Sales and Customer Support.
