Where did the tennis term Love come from?
NEW YORK, Feb. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Love is extending further than Valentine's Day for tennis lovers this year, to the courts of Wimbledon in June.
In tennis scoring love means nothing, hence love-thirty is 0-30. A common explanation for why the term 'love' signifies a score of zero is that it comes from the French term 'L'ouef' meaning egg which looks like a zero.
There is also an explanation that someone who plays and scores zero points must truly love the game.
However to attend the most prestigious oldest tennis tournament in the world, The Championships, Wimbledon would clearly be the best Valentine's gift for tennis lovers.
The 2014 Championships take place from Monday, June 23rd through Sunday, July 6th and just released by The Wimbledon Experience (the only official provider of Wimbledon tours as appointed by The All England Lawn Tennis Club) are packages which capture the romance of the tournament, from being treated like royalty to enjoying award winning food and wine, whilst soaking up the thrilling atmosphere of this world-class event.
