When You Turn Back Your Clocks This Weekend, Save Money And Energy By Programming Your Thermostat
Honeywell Provides Three Quick and Easy Steps for Programming a Thermostat
MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
WHAT: |
This weekend, as clocks are set back and smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries are changed, homeowners should add one more quick and easy task to their Turn Back the Clocks to-do list: program your thermostats. |
Today's thermostats are intuitive, asking homeowners to enter basic information about their schedules and temperature preferences to achieve maximal money and energy savings. An optimal schedule ensures the home is comfortable during mornings and evenings when families are home, and goes into energy- and money-saving mode during the day and late at night when most families are away or sleeping. |
|
If the schedule needs to be adjusted, families with connected thermostats can make changes immediately from a smart phone or any web-enabled device, whether at work, running errands, or on vacation. |
|
Even easier, most thermostats, including all of those manufactured by Honeywell, come programmed with a default schedule designed for energy savings. |
|
WHY: |
"Programming your thermostat is the single most effective way for a homeowner to control heating and cooling costs," according to Honeywell home comfort expert Pat Tessier. "As temperatures drop and days get shorter, programmable thermostats are a quick and easy way to ensure energy and cost savings immediately." |

When used as directed, Honeywell's Wi-Fi 7-Day Programmable Thermostat can save the average homeowner up to $200 annually on heating and cooling. |
|
HOW: |
Ensure that your thermostat displays the correct time. If you have an older model, you may have to manually set your thermostat's clock back. Then follow these steps: |
1. Select the day of the week, your wake time, and desired temperature when you wake up. Choose your optimal temperature if the system is in heating mode, and your desired temperature if the system is in cooling mode. |
|
2. Repeat for each day of the week, both morning and evening, depending on your family's schedule. |
|
3. If you need to override programmed settings – for example, if your family is home during the day on Thanksgiving, adjust the temperature up or down depending on your preferences, and indicate the time the thermostat should resume its normal programmed schedule. |
