This is the question the Kellogg Company asked America in their national Pop-Tarts™ Pop It Forward Contest; a national search for fun and creative ideas for sharing one million Pop-Tarts® toaster pastries, which garnered over 7,000 entries.
The answer to this curious question won an Art Institute of Pittsburgh student an 18-wheel tractor trailer full of one of America's favorite toaster pastries. The winning answer: "I would make pop art from Pop-Tarts® toaster pastries boxes and wrappers," said Tyler Kozar, a graphic design student at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
Tyler's entry won as a finalist, and then as the official winner when Pop-Tarts® Facebook page fans voted via the "Like" function on the social media page.
Today, the Pop-Tarts™ tractor trailer delivered Tyler's prize to The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. "This project is not only about pop art, it's about raising awareness for art, charities, and the quality of education students receive at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh," Tyler said.
Tyler will walk the talk by creating pop art out of his winning experience. He won't be alone as a team of students will help him create the Pop Art Pop-Tarts® gallery which will be unveiled and on exhibit at the Gallery at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh at 420 Boulevard of the Allies, in late March and early April. On the gallery reception menu: Pop Tarts® toaster pastry samplings, of course!
Get ready to see 2D artwork, 3D sculptures, dresses, etc. made out of the Pop-Tarts™ foil wrappers and boxes. The artwork is inspired by famous pop artists such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Roy Lichtenstein.
So how else can Tyler really share his one million Pop-Tarts® pastries?
"I am donating the remaining Pop-Tarts® to local food banks and charities," he said. The pop art will be auctioned the night of the reception with all proceeds going to benefit local charities.
