What Does America Think It Takes To Be Roommate Of The Year?
Apartments.com Asks America to Cast Its Vote to Help Determine Which of Five Finalists Will Be Crowned the 2013 Roommate of the Year and Take Home Free Rent for a Year + $10,000
CHICAGO, June 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- In its fifth year, Apartments.com Roommate of the Year contest asks America to help determine which qualities a roommate should possess to set themselves apart from the rest as the best. From having a compunction for compulsive cleaning to artistic ability, being awesome across state lines, caring for pets or being an all-around great guy, the five finalists in the 2013 Apartments.com Roommate of the Year contest have these roommate skills covered and then some. Apartments.com now unveils the top candidates in the fifth annual Roommate of the Year contest, inviting America to weigh in on what makes the best roommate by voting for their favorite entry at http://www.roommateoftheyear.com. Voting is open now through July 7, 2013 when the votes will be tabulated, and one outstanding roomie will be named the fifth Apartments.com Roommate of the Year and win the grand prize of free rent for one year plus $10,000. Each of the four runner-up winners will receive $500. When casting their vote, the public is asked to judge the finalists' videos with equal weight on originality and creativity, overall wow factor, persuasive argument and style and production.
Last year, Dan Bakst, a student at the University of South Florida studying television production and a resident of Tampa, FL, claimed the grand prize with his video The All-Star Roommate Musical. Bakst wove a musical tale of his roommate talents, ultimately bringing his jaded roommate around to the conclusion that having Dan as a real roommate is better than having a robot created at home. Bakst, who was a second year contest participant, plans to use the money he saved from not paying rent for a year to pursue graduate school.
"Winning the coveted title of 'Roommate of the Year' has allowed our past contest winners to pursue life-changing opportunities," said Tammy Kotula, Apartments.com spokesperson. "By not having to pay rent for a year, our first winner, Keaton Davis, was able to spend a summer as a television production intern in New York City. Andrew Prestler, our second winner, paid for college, and our third winner, Jesse McLaughlin, used some of the savings to get engaged. We look forward to seeing what America thinks of this year's finalists and finding out what our grand prize winner will do with the money he or she saves from having rent paid for a full year!"
The public can view videos and vote for their favorite roommate now through July 7, 2013 at http://www.roommateoftheyear.com. Visitors can vote for their favorite video once every 24 hours until the end of the voting stage. Upon conclusion of the public voting stage, one grand prize and four runner-up winners will be determined by a combination of public vote (60%) and a third-party judging panel (40%).
