WGU Washington Adds Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Management
Applications now being accepted for online B.S. in Business--Healthcare Management program
SEATTLE, July 30, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- WGU Washington – the state's only legislatively-endorsed, online university – has added a new degree program aimed at preparing healthcare professionals for management roles. The Bachelor of Science in Business—Healthcare Management is designed for working business and healthcare professionals who need to earn a bachelor's degree to advance their careers. This new degree program will equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to serve in a variety of leadership roles at a wide range of healthcare-related organizations and facilities across the state, including hospitals, physician offices, skilled nursing facilities, healthcare facilities, accountable care organizations, insurance companies, and community health organizations.
"In our state, we have access to some of the best healthcare research, delivery and managed care," said Peter Adler, President of Molina Healthcare of Washington. "To remain on the leading edge, we need an ever-increasing supply of well-educated, skilled, and knowledgeable men and women to continue the momentum. The new Healthcare Management degree from WGU Washington addresses that need beautifully, providing up-to-date management training aligned with the 21st-century healthcare environment."
Coursework in WGU Washington's B.S. in Business—Healthcare Management will include general education and business curriculum – as well as healthcare-specific topics such as delivery systems, regulation, and compliance; ethics; financial management; technology applications; quality improvement; and risk management. The program curriculum was developed in collaboration with seminal healthcare leaders from major employers such as HCA Healthcare, NorthShore University HealthSystem, and Accolade.
Like all WGU Washington degree offerings, this new program is online and competency-based. Competency-based education is ideal for working professionals because it allows them to study and learn at their own pace and advance as soon as they have mastered course materials. Students have 24/7 access to their course materials and one-on-one faculty support. Terms are six months long, and students pay a flat rate of about $6,000 per year for most programs – regardless of the number of courses completed. Because WGU Washington's programs are self-paced, many students are able to accelerate their studies, finishing their degrees sooner, which saves both time and money. As a result, the average time to complete a bachelor's degree at WGU Washington is less than 3 years.
Applications for the B.S. in Business—Healthcare Management degree program are being accepted now, and students may begin on the first day of any month starting in September. For more information, go to http://washington.wgu.edu/business/healthcare_management_bachelor_degree.
