LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- WGN America's critically acclaimed drama "Manhattan," created by Sam Shaw and directed by Emmy Award-winning director Thomas Schlamme, was honored tonight with an Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Design by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, during the 67th Annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. The "Manhattan" main title is produced by the Emmy Award-winning team from Imaginary Forces, Dan Gregoras, Jeremy Cox, Jon Hassell and Griffin Frazen. This marks WGN America's first Emmy Award, since the network transformed last year to become a destination for high-quality original programming. "Manhattan" is produced by Lionsgate Television, Skydance Television and Tribune Studios.
Upon winning the Emmy Award, Gregoras said, "We are thankful to the Academy and so thrilled to be part of WGN America's first Emmy win. It was an incredible creative process and we were floored by the tremendous talents of everyone involved from Sam Shaw and Thomas Schlamme to the cast and creative team. It's truly a great year for main title design."
Hassell added, "Every note that we got from Sam Shaw was spot on. He's a fantastic collaborator. We are so grateful to be part of his vision and we are thrilled to be amongst all of the talented nominees this year."
"We are incredibly thrilled and so proud of our friends at Imaginary Forces. They managed to fit all of the drama and strangeness of the atomic age into 30 seconds – a feat of nuclear physics in itself," said Shaw.
"Everyone at WGN America congratulates Dan, Jeremy, Jon, Griffin and the Imaginary Forces team for creating an outstanding main title and on their well-deserved Emmy win," said Matt Cherniss, President and General Manager, WGN America and Tribune Studios.
The Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Design for "Manhattan" represents the third Emmy win for Imaginary Forces producers Gregoras, Cox, Hassell and Frazen and 14th Emmy nomination among the team.
WGN America's "Manhattan" returns for a second season on Tuesday, October 13 at 9:00 pm ET / 8:00 pm CT, and follows the tangled lives of the residents of Los Alamos, New Mexico, as they race to create the first nuclear bomb in history. Locked away in the world's most secretive city, the scientists and their families surrender their freedoms, compromise their marriages, and even sacrifice their sanity to end one war and usher in another — the Cold War waiting just over the atomic horizon — all while embedded spies and a climate of paranoia threaten to destroy the project from within.
"Manhattan" stars Emmy-nominated actor John Benjamin Hickey ("The Big C," "The Good Wife") as Frank Winter; Olivia Williams ("Rushmore," "The Ghost Writer") as Liza Winter; Ashley Zukerman ("Rush") as Charlie Isaacs; Emmy®-nominated actress Rachel Brosnahan ("House of Cards," "The Dovekeepers") as Abby Isaacs; Katja Herbers ("The Americans," "De Storm") as Dr. Helen Prins; Christopher Denham ("Argo," "Shutter Island") as Jim Meeks; Harry Lloyd ("The Theory of Everything," "Game of Thrones") as Paul Crosley; Michael Chernus ("Orange Is The New Black," "The Big C") as Louis "Fritz" Fedowitz; Mamie Gummer ("Ricki and the Flash," "The Good Wife") as Nora; Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actor Griffin Dunne ("Dallas Buyers Club," "After Hours") as Woodrow Lorentzen; and Neve Campbell ("Scream 4," "Mad Men," "Party of Five") as Kitty Oppenheimer.
Filmed on location in New Mexico, "Manhattan" is executive produced by Sam Shaw, Thomas Schlamme, Dustin Thomason, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross.
